Our design eye is wide and varied. Here our some of our favourite things, thoughts and people.

Sam Lucente

Art + Design

These super nice technical drawings of computer insides were done by Sam Lucente in the 1980’s, and have been on show at MOMA in New York a number of times over the years.  Sam later became vice president for design at Hewlett-Packard.

These are circuit boards that conjure up more than just technical biz, they bring to mind checked or plaid textiles, abstract paintings and, in one circular instance, the Maya calendar.

Nora Fleming’s Mis-guided Tour

Art + Design

For all those in Sydney be sure to check out Nola Farman’s upcoming exhibition at Art Space.  Opening on Wednesday 31 January at 6pm, with the exhibition running until Feb 20th.

We nicked this from the Art Space website to give you an idea of what’s in store –

The refined sense of the ridiculous in Nora Fleming’s Mis-guided Tourupends the conventional logic of how art should be viewed, seeming at first to be an unnatural distortion. Here, satire is a weapon in an honourable struggle to show things in a new light. Paradoxically, it indicates a deep respect for a particular system of values, if not for its targets. It is an attempt to turn the compost of art production and asymmetrical encounters to make way for new cultural growth and alternative art practice, in which play is a serious pursuit. Deadly serious. You risk the loss of your certainty and your gravity on a mis-guided tour.

The art world is a pale reflection of the worst and the best on planet earth. What is the place of art in a world that has come to be seen, in global terms, as horror and inequality? Is it Compromise? Aesthetic principles conceding to mediocrity. And yet, this does not inhibit the art market, which is voracious. It is, in its own right, a creative force to be reckoned with.

Happy New Year + PSZ Accounting

Shorty before we unplugged our computers (and brains) for the Christmas holidays we launched PSZ Accounting’s new website.

PSZ have an interesting client base comprising of many creatives along with small to medium businesses and not-for-profit organisations.

Their website reflects this along with their modern ( + cool) vibe!

You can see their new website in all it’s glory right here.

Christmas Wishes

Allsorts

Another Super productive year done and dusted.  Thank you so much to all our awesome and inspiring clients who chose to work with us over the past 12 months.

2017 was huge and we set a whole bunch of sites loose on the web including Fremantle Shipping News, Design Theory, Peedamulla Campground, Longreach Recruitment and Bruce McKinven.   We also launched our OWN new website to top that off.

We’ve just marked our 5 year anniversary as a studio (yip yip!) and we look forward to working with many more interesting folk on many more interesting projects in 2018.

Happy holidays and enjoy the festivities!

THE SHORTLISTED 2017

Art + Design

A good thing happened to us on Thursday – our website for Design Theory was shortlisted in this year’s Design Institute of Australia WA awards at the State Theatre Centre of Western Australia in the category of Visual Communication. Smashing!

High Tide Crawl ≈ High Tide 17

Art + Design

High Tide is taking over Fremantle at the moment with site responsive art from both international and local artists.  Last night tons of people turned out to drink beer and do a crawl to see a handful of work on show.

Bruce McKinven

Websites

A new website for Bruce Mckinven to show his work.

Bruce’s career in the performing arts spans over 25 years. As both Set and Costume Designer he works across the fields of theatre, dance, festivals, events and film, and has designed for tons of Australia’s leading theatre and dance companies, arts festivals and independent artists.

You can check the full site out here.

Peedamulla Campground

Websites

Peedamulla is a ‘Camping With Custodians’ campground in the remote Pilbara outback a million miles from anywhere (or more accurately, 75km north east of Onslow).

The brief was to create a site that was quick and easy for travellers to access and book a spot while on the move with limited internet.  This means instantly accessible GPS co-ordinates and prominent directions with easy-to-follow maps.

If you have a 4WD you should check it out, if not just jump onto their website which we launched this week!

Burning with pleasure

Art + Design

While in London recently we were lucky enough to stumble across this special exhibition showing at Peckham’s Bussey Building.  On display were 80 self published books from a number of different countries.

The presentation was beautiful with works held onto the walls with string – beautiful colours and delicious fonts were all on show.
